Why this site exists

Most home-gym content is a list of products with the word "best" attached. It tells you what to buy this week and nothing about whether it will still be standing in ten years. That is the exact question the buy-it-for-life buyer is asking — the person who will pay more once, hates disposable tiers, and wants to know about warranties, weld quality and whether they can still get parts in a decade.

So that is what we rank on: gauge steel, warranty terms, repairability and cost per year of ownership. Those four things decide durability, and almost nobody publishes them side by side. We do, and we show the math so you can check it.

Who writes this

Plate & Rack is written by Stephen V., an enthusiast who is genuinely into home-gym gear. That framing is deliberate and it is the honest one: Stephen V. reads the manuals, compiles the published specifications, reads the warranties line by line, and does the arithmetic. No lab coat, no borrowed credential.

We want to be exact about what we are not. We are not a certified strength coach, a licensed engineer, or a test lab. We have never claimed to bolt twenty racks together and load-test them to failure, because we have not, and saying we did would be a lie we could be caught in. What we do instead is compile documented facts and compute what nobody else computes — and that is a real, reproducible kind of work.

What we do — and don't

• We do compile manufacturer specs, cite published standards, read warranty documents, and compute a true cost-per-year figure for the gear we recommend.
• We doshow live, date-stamped Amazon prices — and when we can't verify a current price, we show none rather than a number that has gone stale.
• We don't run a testing lab or claim hands-on testing of gear we do not own.
• We don't invent reviews, ratings or credentials. Our scores are our editorial judgment from documented research, and we say so.
• We don't let a commission rate change a ranking. When the cheaper product is the better buy, we say so — even though the expensive one pays us more.
